IBM NOTES MAIL MERGE FROM A MICROSOFT EXCEL SPREADSHEET (REQUIRES NOTES DEVELOPER)
LotusScript agents to allow a user to create, preview and send personalized mail-merge emails through Lotus Notes to a set of recipients based on Excel spreadsheet data. This function was developed to address business and environmental concerns in sending paper-based, personalised mass mail, and to overcome several practical limitations in using Microsoft Office’s built-in mail merge email function with Notes email clients; such as: requiring DAMO, Word and Outlook to be installed, and only supporting attachment-based or plaintext emails. Dependencies and Limitations: (1) Notes Client and Excel must be installed on users machine. Tested with Lotus Notes 7.x/8.5.x Client on Windows XP/7, with Microsoft Excel 2003/7/10 OLE. (2) The agents are designed to be installed in a classic Domino 8.5 Mail template (mail85.ntf) or Domino 7 Mail template (mail7.ntf), or similar. (3) The Use "Common" import line in the 'Create Mail Merge' agent code may only work in English-language Domino mail databases. For other languages check your respective Script Library name. For example, change the line to: Use "Common_ja-JP" if your template is Japanese language to get it to compile.

One second, you're looking at the flat surface of a real wooden table. Then, you're gazing straight through it, past small trees, tiny confused zombies, and layers of earth into a deep hole filled with animated lava.

Is proton therapy the 'magic bullet' for cancer?

X-ray method helps decipher ancient scrolls
In A.D. 79, Mount Vesuvius erupted and buried the cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum. Almost 2,000 years later, researchers may be on the brink of reading some of the charred scrolls damaged in the eruption. The scrolls, which were buried in a Herculaneum library and excavated 260 years ago, are easily damaged or destroyed by unwrapping, so researchers have been unable to read them without risk.

Billionaires battle for the Internet in space
A handful of ultra-rich guys are racing one another to deliver the Internet from the sky. The latest is SpaceX, which just got $1 billion in funding from Google and Fidelity. What went wrong with Google Glass
Google seems to have stumbled on that simple fact last week. The tech world was surprised by an announcement that on January 19, Google Glass will be withdrawn from the marketplace. Sales didn't catch fire. Apparently, people didn't have much use for it. Google may have needed to stop and listen to the needs and emotions of people in the everyday world of consumers.

The next phase in virtual reality
Place both hands flat on your chest, just below the clavicle, and say something out loud. Feel that? Every time you speak, your chest cavity vibrates. Physicist Shahriar Afshar thinks recreating that feeling is the key to making video games, movies and music more immersive, emotional experiences. He's created a vest called KOR-FX that plugs into an audio jack and turns sound into chest-rumbling vibrations, mimicking what your vocal cords do.
