Using Smart Upgrade to install Notes components on Windows
Prior to Notes 8.5.2, it was not possible to use Smart Upgrade to upgrade Notes components like Sametime or Symphony without either upgrading Notes as part of a chained installation or causing users to be continually prompted to upgrade, even after a successful upgrade. For these upgrade scenarios, the core Notes version string does not change, and thus there was no way prior to 8.5.2 to signal the client not to keep prompting for an upgrade.

We like to think of cloud technology as being open source, but most of it is proprietary. Amazon.com (AMZN) Web Services is proprietary. The Google (GOOG) Compute Engine is, too. Microsoft's (MSFT) Azure was optimized for Windows. Salesforce.com (CRM_) runs on Oracle (ORCL). Until this week, open source was a small rebel band fighting several death stars in the cloud. Then, as AllThingsD reported, IBM (IBM) stepped in.
